Balliu fabric, certified as flame retardant.

Balliu fabric has been certified as flame retardant by LEITAT: safety, durability and comfort in a single product.

In the competitive world of technical textiles, material properties and certifications play a crucial role in ensuring performance and safety. One of these materials is the breathable PVC and polyester Balliu fabric, which has been evaluated according to test report IN-01536/2024-1 issued by LEITAT.

In the following, we will explore the characteristics and advantages of this fabric based on the results of this certification.

Fabric description

The fabric in question is a combination of PVC and polyester, constructed with double weft and warp. It is a robust and dense fabric, ideal for applications requiring durability and strength.

Fireproofing properties

Balliu fabric has undergone rigorous flammability testing under EN 1021-1:2014 and EN 1021-2:2014, which evaluate the material’s ability to resist common sources of ignition in upholstered furniture.

Tests performed

  1. Ignition source: Burning cigarette (EN 1021-1:2014).
    • Results: No dangerous accelerated combustion, no combustion to the ends of the specimen, and no through-thickness combustion was observed. In addition, the cigarette was self-extinguished with no evidence of final active combustion. This led to a classification of Non Ignition (NI).
  2. Ignition source: Flame equivalent to a match (EN 1021-2:2014).
    • Results: Similarly, no flames or dangerous combustion were recorded. The fabric demonstrated remarkable fire resistance, again obtaining a No Ignition (NI) rating.

Advantages of the fabric

The outstanding properties of the breathable PVC and Polyester fabric include:

  • High ignition resistance: The fabric’s ability to not ignite under specific test conditions makes it ideal for applications in furniture and other contexts where fire safety is crucial.
  • Durability: The thickness and density of the fabric suggest high resistance to wear and mechanical stress.
  • Breathability: Despite its robustness, the fabric allows air circulation, which can be beneficial in applications requiring comfort and ventilation.

Conclusion

The PVC and polyester breathable fabric evaluated in report IN-01536/2024-1 proves to be an excellent choice for applications demanding high fire resistance, durability and breathability. Its certifications to European flammability standards underline its suitability for demanding environments and its ability to contribute to safety and comfort in a variety of applications.
